Eulogy For a Living Past – Bombay, September, 2001

I am remembering very slowly.

Memories occur in odd snippets.

Bold incidents in blinks of glances,

Phrases trail quietly away to ellipses.

Pieces of clothing and strange tunes,

Streaked, colouring the sky

As you drove that restful old city wild

With your blazing, brazen boldness.

Come back into me.

Make me an experience.

Talk, stirring up a sleeping past

So deeply aslumber, that weeds

Of a more recent history

Are merely a blanket strewn.
